Mall of America Warns Against Demonstrations as Crowds Gather

As crowds gathered at the Mall of America in Minnesota ahead of a planned Black Lives Matter demonstration on Wednesday, December 23, the mall’s management warned against protests.

The demonstration was due to begin at 1.30pm. Before the start time, management put a message on a large screen in one of the mall’s rotundas. The message read, “This demonstration is not authorized and is in clear violation of Mall of America policies. All participants must leave Mall of America property immediately.” The message went on to warn that those who would not leave would be subject to arrest.

A judge on Tuesday denied the mall’s request for a restraining order but barred three members of the group from entering the mall. The judge warned, however, that her order “should not be interpreted as authorizing or permitting others to engage in political demonstration at the Mall of America without the express permission of the Mall of America.” Credit: Instagram/connersimms
