NASA Launches Hurricane Satellites

NASA launched its new hurricane-monitoring satellites on Thursday, December 15.

The launch of the Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System, or CYGNSS, went smoothly after its original launch was postponed due to weather and necessary repairs on Monday.

The video shows the Orbital Stargazer L-1011 aircraft releasing what NASA calls a “constellation” of eight small satellites that will observe and share data on hurricanes from orbit. Credit: YouTube/NASA via Storyful
