Nikki Haley Leads Republican Response to Obama's Final SOTU

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley delivered the Republican response to President Obama’s final State of the Union address on Tuesday, January 12.

Haley, who has been tipped as a potential Republican vice-presidential candidate, said that Obama had “fallen far short of his soaring words” that defined his 2008 election campaign.

The daughter of immigrants, Haley spoke of the threat of terrorism and the affect it has had on the immigration debate in America. “During anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices,” she said.

“We cannot continue to allow immigrants to come here illegally. And in this age of terrorism, we must not let in refugees whose intentions cannot be determined.

“We must fix our broken immigration system. That means stopping illegal immigration. And it means welcoming properly vetted legal immigrants, regardless of their race or religion. Just like we have for centuries,” she said.
