Satellite Imagery Shows Cyclone Winston Moving Towards Fiji
This satellite imagery shows Tropical Cyclone Winston moving towards Fiji on February 19. The pictures were recorded by the Himawari satellite, operated by the Japanese Meteorological Agency.
The cyclone brought gusts higher than 200 mph and average wind speeds of 142 mph to the Pacific island nation, according to the Fiji Meteorological Service on February 20. An elderly man died on Koro island when his house collapsed on him, the New Zealand Herald reported.
The Cabinet of Fiji declared a State of Natural Disaster, and a national curfew was placed in effect at 6pm on February 20 to limit damage from the storm, according to reports from the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation. Credit: YouTube/NWSOPC
