Sierra Madre Declares State of Emergency as Bobcat Fire Grows to Over 36,000 Acres

Officials in Sierra Madre, California, declared a state of emergency on Sunday, September 13, as the Bobcat Fire raged in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. By Monday it had burned more than 36,000 acres, according to local reports.

This timelapse footage recorded on September 13 shows the fire burning in the Angeles National Forest near Sierra Madre.

As of September 14, the blaze was six percent contained. Angeles National Forest officials said crews would be focusing on protecting foothill communities and Mount Wilson.
