Taliban Seize Control of Parts of District in Helmand Province
The Taliban made significant gains in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on December 21, and there were reports that the group had seized large parts of Sangin district. However, the governor of southern Helmand was reported to have denied that all of Sangin had fallen to the Taliban.
On Sunday, December 20, the deputy governor of Helmand, Mohammad Jan Rasulyar, posted a plea for help on his Facebook page, warning Afghan president Ashraf Ghani that Helmand could fall to the Taliban if help was not sent. Credit: YouTube/TOLOnews
