Typhoon Nangka Heads Toward Japan

Typhoon Nangka was steaming toward Japan on Wednesday, July 15, on track for a possible landfall on Shikoku island by Friday morning. The powerful storm, listed as “very strong” by the Japan Meteorological Agency, is expected to strengthen over the next two days but weaken before landfall.

The storm may give Japan two strikes – after Friday’s landfall, Nangka is forecast to cross into the Sea of Japan and turn northeast – making a second landfall on Hokkaido. Credit: Japan Meteorological Agency
