World War II Bomb in Leipzig Defused in Massive Explosion

Dramatic video by the police in Saxony shows a British World War II bomb being defused in a massive controlled explosion in the city of Leipzig on January 14. The 500kg (1,100-lb.) bomb was found buried 5 metres deep at a former railway site on the northern outskirts of Leipzig.

The bomb was detonated with explosives and 40,000 litres of water placed on top to dampen the blast, sending a 30-metre water fountain into the sky, according to a statement by the police. Credit: Facebook/Polizei Sachsen
