Wildfires tear through central Spanish countryside

STORY: Fire burned vegetation on the mountain, as helicopters flew over the rising smoke and flames.

Around 4,000 people remained displaced following their evacuation in Cebreros.

Spain's 10-day heatwave was the third-longest since records began. On Monday (July 18) temperatures dropped in most of Spain, but temperatures are expected to rise again in the coming days, national meteorology service AEMET said on Wednesday.

Firefighters were battling flames in the regions of Castile and Leon, Galicia, Aragon, Madrid and Castile-La Mancha, with some local services running out of extinguishing capacity.
