Wildlife Rescue Center 'Ready to Evacuate' as Oregon's Rum Creek Fire Edges Closer
The Rum Creek Fire burning in Oregon’s Josephine County grew to nearly 11,700 acres on Tuesday, August 30, with authorities keeping in place evacuation preparedness warnings.
Footage taken by Kaitlyn Scheffler of Wildlife Images Rehabilitation & Education Center shows thick smoke hanging in the air near the in center in Grants Pass.
“As many of you may already be aware, the Rum Creek Fire is burning Northwest of Wildlife Images. As of today, we are under a Level One evacuation plan,” the center wrote on Facebook. “What does this mean? For the most part, it means that we will keep a close eye on things and keep ourselves ready to evacuate the animals if need be.”
The fire, which authorities said was sparked by lightning on August 17, threatens as many as 7,000 structures across Josephine County, local media reported.
