Malia Obama is 23 years old today. Malia, the older of the Obamas two daughters, was 10 years old when her family first moved into the White House in January 2009. Now, she is full-grown adult with a Harvard education. Time! It truly does whiz by!

Her parents both posted to celebrate their first child for her special day.

“Happy Fourth of July, everybody—and also, happy 23rd birthday to our dear Malia!,” Michelle Obama wrote in honor of her daughter’s day and added a throwback photo to her grid. “It’s been a few years since we took this photo, but I know that she’ll always be my sweet little girl whose big hugs and big heart always lift up my day. Malia, we love you, and are so excited to see what this year will bring for you!”

Malia’s dad, Barack Obama, also posted to celebrate his daughter’ Independence Day birthday. He went with an even older photo of her as a little kid and sneaked in a reference to Malia’s holiday birthday.

“Happy Fourth of July, and Happy Birthday, Malia! It’s been such a joy to watch you begin to make your own way in the world with poise, grace, and humor,” he wrote. “I miss the days when you thought the fireworks were for you.”

In an interview with CBS This Morning in May, Michelle spoke candidly about what it feels like for her daughters to be grown up.

“I almost forgot that this year, this summer, they're going to be 23 and 20,” she said of Malia and her younger sister, Sasha, a student at the University of Michigan. “I mean, I'm just like, ‘Stop there.’ I don‘t even have teenagers anymore. So I am excited for her next chapter. That’s why I want to be as excited as every parent.”
