Biggest Moon of the Year Glows Over Northern California

The biggest and brightest “super moon” of the year was captured reflecting over a serene lake in northern California on July 13.

This full moon, referred to as the “Buck Moon” in The Old Farmer’s Almanac, orbited closer to Earth than any other full moon will for the rest of 2022. The name is derived from the growth period of deer antlers during this time of year.

Crickets and the sounds of waves crashing on the lake’s shore can be heard in the footage, which shows the moon glowing over a distant mountain range. Credit: Angela Maxwell via Storyful
