Boeing finds fresh flaw in 787 jets

Boeing has warned of a delay in deliveries of its 787 Dreamliner, as the planemaker found another production issue with its jet - the third such flaw to appear over the past year.

Boeing found that some components in the plane's horizontal stabilizer were clamped with greater force than specified.

The company said the issue was being corrected on planes not yet delivered, and it was not an immediate flight safety issue.

A source told Reuters as many as 900 planes could need an inspection.

U.S. regulators at the Federal Aviation Administration said they were investigating the matter.

On Monday (September 7), the FAA also said it was investigating two other manufacturing flaws involving the fuselage sections in some 787s.

Boeing said it expects the inspections to affect the timing of deliveries in the near-term.

The new issues come as Boeing tries to find an alternative cash cow to its grounded 737 MAX.

The company said Tuesday (September 8) it had secured its first MAX order in 2020, but also recorded more cancellations as some customers gave up on the troubled plane.

Boeing shares fell close to 6% on the update.
