Dixie Fire Burns Buildings and Grows to Over 360,000 Acres

California’s Dixie Fire had scorched more than 360,000 acres as of August 5, according to official reports, with local media reporting thousands of people have been evacuated.

The wildfire has been active for 23 days, impacting Butte and Plumas counties with 35% containment. The wildfire has destroyed several dozen structures, with over 12,000 buildings threathened, according to official reports.

Footage shows the impact of the blaze on the rural community of Canyondam at Lake Almanor in Plumas County, where residents were ordered to evacuate.

“We do have fire in Canyondam,” Kyle Jacobson, the east zone incident commander, told local media at a briefing on Thursday night. “We have several spot fires in the area. We do have engines, crews and dozers in that area, doing everything they can, trying to prevent further spread.” Credit: Craig Philpott via Storyful
