Hong Kong museum hosts Yayoi Kusama exhibition

STORY: In a media preview on Wednesday (November 9), more than 200 of Yayoi Kusama’s paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, and archive materials were on display.

"Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now” narrates the story of the artist’s life, from the earliest drawings she made as a teenager during World War II to her most recent immersive pieces.

The large-scale exhibition examines Kusama’s practice as it developed in Japan, the United States, Europe and beyond through six different themes: Infinity, Accumulation, Radical Connectivity, Biocosmic, Death, and Force of Life.

Co-curator of the exhibition, Doryin Chong said, “Without doubt, Kusama is one of the most significant and visionary artists of our time, and M+ as Asia's first global museum of visual culture, we feel that Kusama perfectly embodies the Asian position with the global perspectives and experiences, which is why we decided that she is, without doubt, the artist and the maker that we wanted to make the very first exhibition.”
