This New Idris Elba Movie Is the #1 Flick on Netflix & It Looks Really Intense

You better grab your cowboy boots, because you're in for a wild ride with Netflix's latest hit.

Concrete Cowboy , starring Idris Elba, just became the #1 movie on the streaming site (and it looks super intense). Based on the book Ghetto Cowboy by Greg Neri, the Western drama is a portrait of a son trying to understand his father and the unique life he's built for himself.

Check out the full trailer below.

Netflix's official synopsis for the film says, "While spending the summer in North Philadelphia, a troubled teen is caught between a life of crime and his estranged father’s vibrant urban-cowboy subculture."

The film is based off the real-life Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club, an organization that was assembled over 100 years ago and is dedicated to inner-city horsemanship in Philadelphia. Concrete Cowboy is a fictionalization of this group, but the movie explores themes of Black culture, father-son dynamics and the lasting effects of the Wild West. "Fifty percent of all cowboys was Black. Even the Lone Ranger was Black," one character says to Cole, who is played by Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things). Elba tells him, "The history here is deep."

Along with Elba and McLaughlin, the film stars Jharrel Jerome ( Moonlight ), Byron Bowers ( The Eric Andre Show ), Lorraine Toussaint (Law & Order) and Clifford "Method Man" Smith Jr. (The Wire). The film was produced by Elba, Jeff Waxman, Dan Walser, Tucker Tooley and Lee Daniels, who has produced critical successes like Monster's Ball and The Butler.

We think it's time for a movie night.
