Koala-ity Stroke: Determined Marsupial Displays Swimming Skills in Queensland Creek

A determined koala was spotted swimming across a creek in the suburbs of Brisbane, Australia, before climbing a low-lying branch to safety.

In this video, posted on April 27, the koala can be seen in the water at Cairndale before making it to the other side of the creek and scrambling up the tree. “You’re going to have to go save the thing,” a voice can be heard saying in the background before the koala makes the crossing.

Known for sleeping up to 20 hours a day, koalas are able to swim – however they can drown in backyard pools when they are unable to climb out of the water. Credit: Kevin Lohr via Storyful
