'Looks Like a Lake': Flooding Leaves Travelers Stranded at Fort Lauderdale Airport
Flights were grounded and travelers stranded at Florida’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after severe flash flooding on Wednesday, April 12.
The airport said it would be closed to flight activity until at least 12 pm on Thursday due to rain and flooding. Earlier on Wednesday evening, the airport requested that no one attempt to enter or leave the airport until the weather improved.
Footage from Ben Aird shows the situation at the airport, with flooded runways and submerged vehicles.
“Never seen anything like this before!” he captioned the footage. “Looks like a lake out there.”
Aird tweeted that he had had three flights cancelled, and was stuck in the airport for more than 10 hours.

- In Fort Lauderdale, look how much water is on the tarmac. Just absolutely dumping rain right now. Tropical storm here in Florida. That car's creating a wake of water because there's so much water on the tarmac. There's waves at the airport. That car's almost all the way underwater. Holy cow.
