Megan Fox reveals she quit alcohol after getting 'belligerent' on Golden Globes red carpet

Megan Fox is opening up about the experience that inspired her to stop drinking alcohol.

In a video interview with Who What Wear, published last Friday, the "Till Death" star, 35, recalled how drinking too much champagne at the Golden Globe Awards in 2009 led her to make regrettable comments on the red carpet.

"I was sat at a table with Blake Lively and all three Jonas Brothers," she said. "At the Golden Globes, they always put those giant bottles of Moët (& Chandon) champagne on the table. I went through multiple glasses of that."

As a result, Fox said she became "belligerent" and "said a bunch of (expletive) I shouldn’t have said on the red carpet."

"Now I don’t drink, and this is why," she added. "I got in a lot of trouble for whatever I said on the red carpet at this event. I don’t remember why but I know that I did. You can look that up."

Megan Fox said she wore a Ralph Lauren gown to the 2009 Golden Globes, where she says too much alcohol led her to make regrettable comments on the red carpet.

According to footage shared by TMZ at the time, Fox gave an interview to red carpet reporter Giuliana Rancic at this event, in which she used a defamatory term for transgender people and opened up about feeling "so painfully insecure."

"I'm on the verge of vomiting right now," she continued. "I'm so horrified that I'm here and embarrassed and scared."

When asked about her then-fiancé Brian Austin Green, Fox said he didn't want to attend the award show with her.

"He doesn't want to be here. He doesn't want to be my date. He's a man. He has an ego," she said. "I think he's probably working on music. I don't think he cares."

Fox filed for divorce from Green after 10 years of marriage in November 2020, days after making her red-carpet debut with boyfriend Machine Gun Kelly at the American Music Awards.

Fox cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for her split from the "Beverly Hills, 90210" star, 48.
