Parts of Scenic Montana Highway Washed Out by Severe Flooding in Yellowstone Area

The Montana Department of Transportation (DOT) released new footage on Friday, June 17, showing damage to the Beartooth Highway, which leads to Yellowstone National Park, after flooding washed out part of the road earlier in the week.

The record-setting flooding in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho caused severe damage to infrastructure. The MontanaDOT announced several road closures along Beartooth Highway between Red Lodge, Montana, and northern Wyoming. This drone video shows some of the flood damage to the closed section of highway.

Local media reported the time needed to make the extensive repairs may affect the Yellowstone region’s tourism economy. Credit: MontanaDOT via Storyful
