Prince Andrew was with the Queen at her rural Scottish residence when he found out Virginia Giuffre was suing him, report says
Virginia Giuffre sued Prince Andrew for damages at a New York court on Monday.
Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein's accusers, said the prince had sex with her when she was 17.
Andrew was reportedly in Scotland with his mother, Queen Elizabeth, when he found out about the suit.
Prince Andrew was with his mother Queen Elizabeth II at her Scottish residence when he found out he was being sued by Virginia Giuffre, The Times of London reported.
In a complaint filed in New York on Monday, Giuffre accused Prince Andrew of having sex with her when she was 17 at a mansion owned by the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
A spokesperson for Prince Andrew previously told Insider he "categorically" denied "any suggestion of impropriety with underage minors."
A US court summons was sent to the 61-year-old prince's home at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, but he was not there to receive it as he was at Balmoral Castle, The Times reported.
"Prince Andrew's sexual abuse of a child who he knew was a sex-trafficking victim, and when he was approximately 40 years old, goes beyond all possible bounds of decency and is intolerable in a civilized community," Giuffre's complaint read.
Giuffre first accused Prince Andrew of sexually abusing her in December 2014 in court filings used as part of a Justice Department case against Epstein.
Epstein died by suicide in jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking and conspiracy charges.
Giuffre previously testified that she was first recruited into Epstein's alleged sex ring by the British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell while working as a spa attendant at former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
Maxwell was arrested by US law enforcement in July 2020 and was subsequently charged with crimes related to trafficking minors for Epstein.
Maxwell is currently detained at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center and has been denied bail several times.
Her trial is scheduled to start in November. She has pleaded not guilty.
