Yahoo奇摩新聞 Protesters Fill Tennessee State Capitol Ahead of Vote to Expel House Democrats
Protesters rallied at Tennessee’s state capitol in Nashville on Thursday, April 6, ahead of a vote to expel three Democratic lawmakers who support gun reform.
State Representatives Gloria Johnson, Justin Pearson, and Justin Jones, referred to as The Tennessee Three, faced expulsion after Republican Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton said they rushed the well of the House and led a protest with a bullhorn that disrupted the session, local media reported.
Footage captured by Jorge Avila shows protesters chanting and cheering for the Democratic representatives when they passed through the building on Thursday morning.
During the House session on Thursday, the three are expected to be expelled from the legislature, local media reported.
Gun-safety advocates protested on Wednesday, April 5, as Republican members of the Tennessee House Education Administration Committee responded to the Covenant School shooting by voting to advance a bill that will allow teachers and other school staff to carry a concealed handgun.
