Tropical Depression 18 was expected to strengthen as it moved across the Atlantic, the National Hurricane Center said on Thursday, September 23.

The center said the depression could become a tropical storm late Thursday, and potentially a hurricane over the weekend.

The World Meteorological Organization’s list of tropical cyclone names shows that the storm would be named Sam.
