Satellite Images Show Durban Before and After Fatal Flooding
New satellite imagery released by Maxar Technologies on Thursday, April 14, shows the South African city of Durban before and after it was inundated by fatal flooding.
Local news outlets reported on Friday that over 340 people have died in the torrential rains.
On Thursday, the South African government declared a provincial disaster in the flooded region of KwaZulu-Natal.
Maxar Technologies released satellite imagery captured on Thursday, which they say, side-by-side with images from March 13, show the “significant impact to parts of Durban’s infrastructure including roads and highways, Durban’s primary railyard near the port, multiple shipping container facilities and an oil refinery south of the city.” Credit: Maxar Technologies via Storyful
