Second fuel tank erupts into fireball in Cuba

STORY: Footage from the Cuban government shows the moment a second oil tank erupts into a fireball, sending up a huge column of black smoke at the Matanzas super tanker port, 60 miles east of Havana.

The Matanzas’ governor, Mario Sabines, said the blast took all the fuel out, spreading fire through the surrounding underbrush.

A lightning strike on Friday (August 5) ignited two of eight storage tanks at the super tanker port. The Cuban news agency ACN reported the fire on the first tank was under control.

President Miguel Diaz-Canel said the fire’s magnitude made it difficult to control in Cuba, where there are not all the means that are required to tackle the blaze.
