Shark Sneaks Up on School of Stingrays in the Hamptons
A school of 65 stingrays, also known as a fever, were scared off by a shark that approached them off the coast of Southampton, New York.
This drone footage was captured by Joanna L Steidle, a Southampton-based photographer who often captures marine life and specializes in drone imagery. She said the video was filmed on August 20.
The rays were migrating up north to New England from the coast of South America where they began their journey, said Steidle. They can be seen scattering away after a shark swims too close to an isolated stingray duo.
“While these creatures may look unthreatening, be warned: they posses sharp barbs that contain venom,” said Steidle. “A sting from one of these rays can prove fatal.” Credit: Joanna L Steidle via Storyful
