'Shoot Me': Kenosha Shooting Victim Seen in Earlier Video Confronting Armed Men
One of two people fatally shot during anti-racism protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, late on Tuesday, August 25, was filmed earlier in the evening confronting armed men saying, “Shoot me, n****.”
Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, is seen on the right-hand side in this footage approaching armed men standing to the left of the frame. He was later shot in the head and died, according to the Kenosha Police Department.
A second victim, 26-year-old Anthony Huber, was also fatally shot, while a third person was wounded in the arm.
Suspect Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old self-described militia member, was arrested at his home in Antioch, Illinois, hours later and charged with First Degree Intentional Homicide, local police said.
Rittenhouse had also been captured in footage taken before the shooting, telling an interviewer he was armed with his rifle for self-defense, and that it was his “job” to protect the boarded-up business he was standing in front of, and “to help people.”
Footage from the deadly shooting that unfolded later shows an armed Rittenhouse tripping and falling on a street as protesters chase him down. One person is heard in the background saying “he shot someone.” As protesters rush toward him, Rittenhouse turns his body around and opens fire at them. One person falls to the ground, and a second person appears to take a gunshot to their right arm.
Rittenhouse then gets back to his feet and, still armed with his rifle, begins jogging toward police vehicles further down the street. People are heard shouting, trying to alert police that Rittenhouse had shot people. Rittenhouse then raises his hands in the air as he approaches the flashing lights of the police vehicles. However, they do not approach him, but instead drive armored vehicles past him toward the protesters. Credit: Julio A. Rosas via Storyful
