SEANA SMITH: Shares moving to the upside today. You can look at gains of nearly 4%. Now the gains coming despite public scrutiny over thousands of flight cancellations. The airline releasing a statement earlier today, writing, quote, "We plan to return to normal operations with minimal disruptions on Friday, December 30." That's tomorrow. Now the airline has canceled over 2,300 flights today alone. That's over half of its schedule.

As of right now, though, only 39 flights have been canceled tomorrow. So far, 0 on Saturday. That's according to the latest numbers from Flight Aware. Now despite these somewhat positive signs for Southwest, the backlog of cancellations, piles of bags at baggage claims, and also thousands of angry customers awaiting refunds will likely prove to be a huge challenge here for CEO Bob Jordan.
