BRAD SMITH: All right, we've got some sultry moves here on the markets on this midterm election day. Taking a look at the Dow Jones Industrial Average, that's to the upside by about 6/10 of a percent. 205 points in positive territory. Also holding onto some gains after dipping into negative territory just very briefly, you've got the NASDAQ composite tech heavy average up by about 3/10 of a percent. And the S&P 500, yeah, that's percolating right now. It's up by about 3/10 of a percent, 11 points in the green.
Let's dive into some of the activity in terms of the individual names and seeing exactly where we might see some outliers here. Megacap, taking a look at that, the Apple shares right now moving higher by about a quarter of a percent. That after dipping into negative territory earlier on today.
Microsoft, Alphabet also both in positive territory, but we've been getting an interesting bit here on some of the semiconductor names early in trade on the day, as there's a bit of reprieve that's perhaps being taken place. You've got Nvidia up by about 2.6% right now, and then additionally, taking a look at Qualcomm, that's up by about 2%, Applied Materials up 3%, and mostly in the green here, except for Western Digital. It looks like that is in the red by about 8/10, 9/10 of a percent there.
And then additionally here, let's take a look at some of the broader NASDAQ names as we were a moment ago. I just wanted to zoom back in on Tesla. Those shares are actually moving lower by about 3 and 1/2%, 3.6% right now. So continued pressure there as CEO Elon Musk continues to place a lot of his attention towards Twitter, of course, his newest acquisition or the newest addition to his own personal portfolio for X Holdings there. So Tesla shares, they have been taking a hit since that deal has continued to move forward and a lot of the attention being placed there.
And then additionally here, let's just round it out with a look at the sector activity that we've been tracking on the day. Still mostly mixed as of right now. But then additionally here, on the move to the upside, you've got materials moving up and zoom, zoom, zooming by about 1.4%.
