DAVE BRIGGS: Taylor Swift's new album "Midnight" is having a massive opening week. Yahoo Finance's Allie Canal joins us with the details. No real surprise here.
ALEXANDRA CANAL: I was going to say, no real surprise. It's Tay-Tay. But if you really dig into the numbers here, you'll see the impact that this album has had really on the music industry at large. "Midnight's" moving 1.2 million units in the US during its first three days of release. That's according to Luminate. And that number should be even higher by the end of this week. Historically speaking, this is the first album in five years to move more than a million units in its opening week, the last one also being from Taylor Swift, her 2017's "Reputation."
But, you know, besides just streaming, Taylor has really emphasized that she wants to sell physical copies, more traditional forms of media, vinyl, CDs. And that's important because those traditional copies weigh more heavily when we talk about Billboard charts. So it's a really important strategy for her. And the "Midnight" success, it just keeps happening. So I expect these numbers to really skyrocket.
