'Torrential' Afternoon Downpour Inundates South London
Rain described by local media as torrential again hit the London area on Thursday, August 13, following a record-setting heat wave across the United Kingdom.
This video shows flooding on the M25 motorway in London on Thursday afternoon. Parts of the M25 and M23 were shut down due to flooding caused by the heavy rain.
The Met Office also issued a Yellow warning effective until August 17 as a record-breaking heatwave presented a continued risk for strong thunderstorms. It was the first time in records dating back to 1961 that temperatures of 34 C (93 F) and above had been recorded for six consecutive days, they said.
