UNICEF works with children traumatized by quake
STORY: UNICEF is working with children
who have been traumatized
by the Turkey-Syria earthquake
Location: Aleppo, Syria
9-year-old Ahmad is one of them
(Hassan Moath, Ahmad's father)
“Once he forgets, he hears a loud sound and remembers. With any loud voice or movement, he gets scared. Sometimes when he is asleep he wakes up and says 'earthquake'."
Ahmad's family has relocated to
this makeshift shelter run by UNICEF
where the volunteers are
providing psychological first aid
(Diana Fattal, Youth and Child Protection Officer at UNICEF)
“Thousands of children faced on the sixth of February a crisis within a crisis where they continue to face complex situations of displacement, fear, and extreme cold weather. As you see that this collective shelter that used to be a school, is now accommodating families that lost houses and loved ones."
The shelter is one of 200 operated
by UNICEF across the country
