Coast Guard Rescues Boat by Using Helicopter as 'Ice Breaker'

US Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City released footage on April 13 showing the moment emergency crews rescued two fisherman whose boat had been surrounded by ice. During the incident, which took place on April 11 near Holland in Michigan, the rescue team used their helicopter to blow the ice away from the vessel.

“This was definitely the most out-of-the-box case I’ve been involved with,” Lieutenant Rocco Franco said. “It’s not very often that our helicopter is used as an ice breaker.” Credit: Facebook/US Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City
