Japanese Rocket Blasts Off for Asteroid Mission

A rocket carrying the Japanese probe Hayabusa-2 was launched on December 3, beginning a long mission to bring an asteroid sample back to Earth. The rocket was sent towards its scheduled orbit after launching from the Tanegashima Space Center. According to the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency, Hayabusa-2 is expected to reach its destination by 2018 and return to Earth by the end of 2020.
