Aerial Footage Shows Lava Streaming Into Ocean in Hawaii

Streams of lava from the Kilauea volcano’s lower East Rift Zone in Hawaii continued to flow into the Pacific Ocean on July 21, with strong winds blowing whit laze plumes inland, the US Geological Survey said.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) shared this footage of the lava entering the ocean in the vicinity of Ahalanui. The footage is described as showing “laze,” a corrosive seawater plume containing hydrochloric acid and fine volcanic particles that can irritate the skin, eyes, and lungs.
