Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak Fires Grow to Over 145,000 Acres in New Mexico
The Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak fires burning west of Las Vegas, New Mexico, reached 145,854 acres (approximately 228 square miles) on Tuesday, May 3, after forcing evacuations in San Miguel and Mora counties.
As of Tuesday morning, the wildfires were at 20 percent containment, according to official reports.
