Plane Drops Fire Retardant on Washburn Fire as Evacuations Ordered

The Washburn Fire burning in Yosemite National Park, California, covered 1,190 acres by Sunday, July 10, forcing evacuations in the area over the weekend, officials said.

Footage published by @ewanc on Friday, July 8, shows a plane dropping flame retardant on a large plume of smoke rising from the forest. The source said the footage was filmed near the Wawona Hotel in Yosemite National Park.

Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, which has been monitoring the fire, said on Saturday, July 9, that the fire covered 466 acres, a growth of 300 acres since 9 am on the same day. Inciweb said the fire had grown to 1,190 acres by Sunday. Credit: @ewanc via Storyful
