and it merges sustainability, innovation and community
LOCATION: Skelleftea, Sweden
The Sara House of Culture stands at almost 262 feet tall
making it one of the world's tallest timber constructions
It was constructed from 12,200 cubic meters of wood
from trees harvested around Skelleftea
(SOUNDBITE)(Swedish) HEAD OF URBAN PLANNING AT SKELLEFTEA MUNICIPALITY, THERESE KREISEL, SAYING:"In this building we'll have six stages, that's the theater. There are two art galleries and there are activities for children connected to that with art and creative learning. Then there will be three restaurants, there's the hotel and conference part and last but not least, the library."
The building's energy system tries to be as carbon neutral as possible
It's equipped with solar panels, batteries and a heat pump
