Ugandan Musician-Turned-Politician Bobi Wine Releases Coronavirus PSA Song

Bobi Wine, a Ugandan pop star–turned-member of parliament, and reggae artist Nubian Li came together to produce a coronavirus “alert” song — released on March 25 — to warn people of COVID-19 and urge them to take precautions.

“In this struggle against the Coronavirus, we must deploy all our mighty weapons. Music has always been our most potent weapon so it must be unleashed without wait. Let’s use all the tools at our disposal to sensitize the masses against this global pandemic,” wrote Wine on Twitter.

Bobi Wine, aka Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, is a Ugandan musician, actor and member of parliament serving the Kyadondo East constituency in the Wakiso District in Uganda’s Central Region. Wine released a statement on March 24 announcing that his office and the office of his resistance movement, People Power, Our Power, would close in order to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and work would continue online. The statement also condemned the “corrupt tendencies within government that could lead to the further spread of COVID-19.”
