Coast Guard Saves 22 Sailors From Listing Ship Off Northern Spain

The Spanish Coast Guard saved 22 crew members aboard a listing ship around 148 miles off Cape Ortegal in northern Spain on January 26. The Panamanian-flagged cargo ship Modern Express was listing at a 40 degree angle in strong winds and high waves in the Cantabrian Sea. The coast guard hoisted all 22 sailors from the 535 foot (163 metres) long ship, which was en route from Gabon to Le Havre, France.

A salvage tag has been dispatched to recover the abandoned freighter. This video shows the coast guard rescuing the crew. Credit: Salvamento Maritimo
