Crews Battle Party Rock Fire as Forecasts Cause Concern

A wildfire near North Carolina’s Lake Lure had burned more than 4,400 acres, was just 19 percent contained, and was increasing in size on Tuesday, November 15, with forecasts of windy and mild weather reportedly causing concern for fire crews.

The Party Rock fire began on November 5, and 323 people were battling the blaze as of Tuesday evening, officials said, and evacuations orders were in effect. Video here shared on Tuesday shows Greensboro fire crews working against the fire in a wooded area.

A state of emergency was put in place for western North Carolina due to several active wildfires n the region. Western North Carolina is experiencing its fifth-driest fall in 104 years, according to WCNC citing Catherine Hibbard of the US Forest Service, and this dry weather was contributing to the growth of the fires.
