Deadly Cyclone Brings Severe Winds to Chennai
At least 10 people were killed as Cyclone Vardah hit Chennai, southern India, on Monday, December 12.
The cyclone made landfall around nine miles from Chennai, forcing tens of thousands of people to evacuate from their homes in low-lying areas, according to local media. Thousands of trees and electrical poles were also uprooted, causing disruption to traffic and power cuts across Chennai. Heavy rains will still affect the city in the next 12 hours as reported by NDTV, citing local officials.
