Fiji to Remove Union Jack From Its Flag
Fiji is set to removed the Union Jack from its national flag, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama announced on Tuesday, February 3. “We need to replace the symbols on our existing flag that are out of date and no longer relevant, including some anchored to our colonial past,” he said in a speech in Nasinu. A national competition will be held for the design of the flag.
The new flag is expected to be unveiled in October, on the 45th anniversary of Fiji’s independence from Britain. Credit: YouTube/Fijian Government
