Romania Air Defense Troops Prepare for Poland NATO Deployment
Romania’s 205th Air Defense Battalion announced they would be sending 100 troops abroad to support NATO’s presence in Poland.
This footage shows scenes of the soldiers undergoing training exercises as well as an interview with Romanian Brigade Commander Nistor Andrei, who explains it is up to the Romanian troops to support their allies.
“We have worked before with our allies, but only in Romania,” Andrei says. “We have never worked abroad.”
Romania’s deployment comes as over 1,000 NATO troops from multiple countries have stationed themselves in Estonia, Poland, Latvia and Lithuania for Operation Atlantic Resolve. The operation is intended to be a bulwark in the Baltic region against Russia, following its annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the occupation of Georgian territory since 2008.
