Wildfire Prompts Evacuations in Central Idaho

High winds exacerbated a wildfire in central Idaho, prompting mandatory evacuations and the shutting down of a highway on Sunday, September 4, officials said.

According to official information, the Ross Fork fire began on August 14 and was caused by lightning. By Sunday night, it burned almost 6,000 acres and was 4 percent contained.

This footage was posted to Facebook by the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, who said it was captured north of Smiley Creek on Sunday.
